Red Nose Day: Get Silly for a Serious Cause!

The History of Red Nose Day

Red Nose Day was the first national fundraising day of its kind in Australia. It began with the goal of raising awareness and funds for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) research. The inaugural campaign was a massive success, raising over $1.3 million and selling over one million red noses! The tagline – "getting silly for a serious cause" – has been a key part of its success, encouraging people to wear a red nose, embrace their silly side, and spread smiles, all while supporting a crucial cause.

Making a Difference

Because of Red Nose Day, we now have an evidence-based safe sleep program and other vital resources that parents, carers, and health professionals can use to reduce the risk of babies dying in their sleep. This program is estimated to have saved over 12,000 little lives. Additionally, the $18 million raised for research since the first Red Nose Day has significantly advanced our understanding of why babies die suddenly in their sleep.

Today, Red Nose Day funds critical research into SIDS and stillbirth and provides free support to families who have experienced SIDS, stillbirth, Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy (SUDI), and miscarriage. The event continues to bring communities across Australia together, making a meaningful difference for families in need.
